It just got better!!

Am in a very happy mood now.

I finally managed to get the quality that I want for the Almond Crisps that I had tried previously. Previous attempts was not consistent :(

However tonight, 3 batches and all were consistent. No burns at the sides and the best part was it is really thin!!

It just got better with time!! :D

Chocolate Almond Biscotti

I decided to try making Biscotti myself since it’s selling outrageously high in the market.

simple ingredient consisting of plain flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, eggs, almonds and chocolate

the Biscotti loaf baking in the oven
yucky appearance and indeed it felt yucky as the whole dough is very very sticky!

my first batch of Biscotti
slightly burn, went wrong somewhere
suspect the culprit is the chocolate

not an alluring appearance but tastes great!

In the end, I find that my Biscotti is rather sweet even though the chocolate I used is suppose to be “bitter-sweet”. Am sure it will blend well with a cuppa :)

Is it my taste is changing, as just recently a friend of mine commented that I seem to like my stuff “bland”. Hhmm, maybe it’s true that I don’t like too sweet stuff!

Baked a batch of Vanilla Kipferl cookies recipe courtesy of my cousin. Surprisingly it is rather easy and fast and mmm…..delicious!!!

And oohh, although Vanilla is being named here, but there’s not a single drop of vanilla essence at all!!.. Duh, don’t ask me why!!

soft melt in the mouth de-li-cious vanilla kipferl coated with castor sugar

More Almond Crisps!!

Made another batch of almond crips and this time is my best batch so far. Finally, finally managed to get it thin and the whole batch colour is just nice….a really nice soft light brown!!

This batch is made for my 8th aunt who will be celebrating her birthday by throwing us yet again another feast at The Ming Room, Bangsar Shopping Centre.

Bought a clear glass jar, decorated it a bit and throw in the lovely almond crips. This will be presented to her by my boy tomorrow together with a bottle of white wine.

just out of the over ~ evenly toned, a nice light brown

broken randomly into pieces

the final product ~ a gift

Wonder what will we have tomorrow as the last time we were there, the food is soo yummy!!

Orange Poppy Seed Cake gone awry!!

This blog post is a bit late. Had too many things on my hand to blog for a few days.

Last Friday (Aug 31st) was a Public Holiday, Malaysia’s National Day and this year it is our 50th year of independence!!

My son’s “kai-ma” came for a visit and we decided to bake orange poppy seed cake. The whole process was fun, orange aroma throughout the whole house. Hhmmm….. it smells so yummy!! and we just can’t wait to test our creation.

The whole look and feel is similar to the picture in the recipe. HOWEVER, the taste was just just….now how do I put it in a nice and gentle way? hehehe….. Well, the cake is a bit hard, taste floury and not sweet!! If not for the syrup that we poured over the cake as the recipe calls for it, the whole cake is not sweet!!

I was not too satisfied with the result of this cake. I expected a better turn out comparing it to my previous bakes. Thought about the whole process the whole night and VOILA!! I think I know where we went wrong.

Now you see, during the measurement of the ingredients, the recipe calls for 3/4 of milk and sugar. Being me who hates figures, I got this “kai-ma” to tell me how much is 3/4 as we did not have a cup for specific 3/4. So using a 1/4 cup, “kai-ma” told me not to fill the ingredient to the brim, just slightly below the brim and you’ll get 3/4. Have you noted the error in here already?? :p

No offence yah “kai-ma” (anyway, you seldom read my blog so very safe for me to post this up kekekekek). So the measurement was wrong which I figured contributed to the result of the cake being a bit hard and not sweet at all!!

This cake will be KIV-ed for the moment. Will give it a try again and this time I’m sure it will turn out the way it should be – soft, moist and tastes like what a cake should be!!

Almond Crisps

My niece was over at my house this week due to school holiday thus we tried our hands at making Almond Crisps. Found an easy recipe with easy steps. It does not even take 30 minutes to prepare the whole thing.

The turn out was not so professional but edible. The sides were a bit burned tho, so wasted some of it. Overall, we gave it a ranking of 5 out of 10 scale. Will try making this easy snack again!

More Cuppie Cupcakes

Made another batch and some of it will land in the hands of my colleague. They’ve been ‘complaining’ that I did not bring and let them try…. So ‘pai-seh’ but anyhow, I promised the next time I bake, I bring them some so here goes….
I’ve also realised that in my posts, the photos are all the cooked version, so here is the uncooked version for a change.

cuppie cupcakes ~ the raw stuff!!
So those who tried, if it’s good let me know. And if you happen to bump into this post, you can leave your comments here. If you find it otherwise, eerrr…. I don’t wanna know!!! hehehe….

‘pai-seh’ – a hokkien word that means shy

Pat a cake, pat a cake…..

Pat a cake, pat a cake
Baker’s man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Pat it and prick it and mark it with ‘B’
And put it in the oven for Baby and Me….

Decided to bake a batch of Banana Walnut Cake but this time in cupcake form. Find it easier to eat this way. Just tear away the cupcake paper, eat and discard!!

This time I left out the fresh milk as in previous attempt, the cake was too soft to cut.

More Cupcakes!!

Intended to order a Poppy Seed cake for my mum’s birthday but alas the baker is not available. Not wanting to purchase any cake off the shelf, decided to bake another set of cupcakes. As we will be going on a weekend get-away to Kajang (different post on this), this would be convenient.

this time is orange poppyseed cupcakes
blooming beautifully

just out of the oven waiting to be
transferred to the cooling rack

lined on the cooling rack, ready to be decorated
tried to decorated with fresh cream but did not turn out well
thus revert back to basic icing

flowers anyone?
yah i know my art is bad, don’t have to tell me

the finish product
a child’s play hehehe….

All in, I enjoyed baking this batch very much especially the decoration part. A bit tricky and really need skill. Hats off to those who can master this art so perfectly to come out with masterpieces.

Overall, am satisfied and it does indeed turns out to be a gift from a grandson to his grandma (on behalf of my boy). Hope you like it mum (aka poh-poh to my son) and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
